Auditorio Municipal, the municipal auditorium of Abanilla

Auditorio Municipal, the municipal auditorium of Abanilla

The auditorium stands on top of a still used irrigation water deposit in Abanilla

The municipal auditorium of Abanilla stands almost alongside the tourist office and the church of San José in the centre of the town, and is a venue for theatre productions and musical events as well as exhibitions, one of the annual highlights being the Villa de Abanilla International Folklore Festival.

The building was designed by Jesús Carballal to stand on top of an irrigation water deposit which is still in use, and before it was built the children of the town used to swim here in summer.

The auditorium was officially opened in 2004, and contains a main events hall which can hold an audience of up to 406 as well as various exhibition rooms. At present some of this space is devoted to the items found at the paleontological site of Quibas, including numerous animal fossils from approximately 1.3 million years ago.

Address: Calle Pio XII, 30640 Abanilla

Telephone: 968 680001
