Man wanted in Belgium for drug trafficking arrested in Murcia
He was arrested while trying to complete official paperwork in Murcia after police confirmed he was wanted in Belgium in connection with a drug trafficking conviction

The Spanish National Police recently arrested a man in Murcia who was wanted in Belgium for drug trafficking. Although he had been living in the area for some time, he was eventually located by officers when he went to a public government office to carry out routine administrative paperwork. It was during these standard procedures that his identity and legal status were flagged by the authorities.
Before making the arrest, local officers had been conducting an investigation to confirm the man's identity and his movements within the city. They had received information suggesting he was living in Region of Murcia and worked to establish exactly where he was staying and what he was doing locally.
During these checks, it was confirmed that the Belgian authorities had issued a European Arrest Warrant for him. This is the standard EU system for police cooperation, where authorities can share alerts and act on warrants if someone is wanted in another member state to serve a sentence.
The original conviction was issued by the Court of First Instance in Charleroi, Belgium. The man is reported to have a significant criminal history, including previous convictions for organised crime and other drug-related offences, and he has already served several prison sentences in the past.
Following the confirmation of his identity, the National Police arrested him in Murcia. He is now awaiting the next stage of the legal process, which involves his extradition to Belgium to serve his sentence. The charges are related to drug trafficking and carry a prison term that is expected to be between 2 and 6 years.
