Until January 6 The municipal nativity scene in Águilas 2025-26
800 figures and a host of local landmarks on display in the Belén at the Águilas Plaza shopping mall
The official municipal Belén, or nativity scene, of Águilas has now been inaugurated at the Águilas Plaza shopping mall in a ceremony attended by José Antonio Consentino, the Councillor for Culture, and other local dignitaries.
The iconic Belén de San José was donated several years ago to the town of Águilas by Antonio García, who passed away shortly afterwards, and this year it is due to the efforts and hard work of the Paso Azul that it has been set up in the mall. The scene contains almost 800 figures, many with moving parts, and over 100 buildings and other constructions representing humble abodes and iconic local sights such as the castle, the Molino de Sagrera windmill and the Torre de las Palomas.
During the ceremony the honour of placing the last figure, the “caganer” (a man squatting with his trousers down and emptying his bowels!) was bestowed upon the new parish priest of the church of San José, José Antonio Cano. An honour he will doubtless recall fondly for the rest of his career!
The Belén can be visited every day of the week between 17.00 and 21.00 while doing your Christmas shopping at Águilas Plaza and alongside is a collection point for foodstuffs to be distributed to those in need by the local branch of the Cáritas charity.
If visiting Águilas your first port of call should be the local tourist office (click here for map, telephone 968 493285, email turismo@aguilas.es).

Oficina de Turismo de Águilas
Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
