Work starts on the first seafront bicycle lane in Los Alcázares
The first 490-metre phase is the first step towards a continuous coastal route that will connect the seafront with a safe and eco-friendly bike lane

Work has now started in Los Alcázares on the first section of its new Paseo Marítimo bike lane. This project will make it easier and safer to get around the seafront while also improving the look and feel of the coastline along the Mar Menor.
This opening section runs for 490 metres between Playa de La Hita and Avenida Radiobaliza Óscar. It will be a two-way lane, two metres wide, built on the inland side of the promenade so pedestrians and cyclists can move more comfortably without getting in each other’s way.
Alongside the bike lane itself, plans also include a landscaped strip of plants separating the walkway and the lane, plus bike parking and a repair station. The project is designed not only to improve mobility but to create a greener and more pleasant, environmentally friendly seafront.
The works have a budget of €205,288.49, funded by the tourism sustainability programme supported by Next Generation EU investment.

Mayor Mario Pérez Cervera said, "With this first phase, we are taking a firm step towards a safer and more sustainable mobility model on our Paseo Marítimo, organising how the space is used and ensuring pedestrians and cyclists can coexist comfortably."
Tourism and Beaches councillor María José Díaz Aragón added, "This project not only improves mobility but also contributes to regenerating the Paseo Marítimo, adding renaturalised areas and reinforcing the environmental quality of our seafront."
